Do you use the filter in your tank? Pros or defects?

Have been using a sponge filter for many years and it works great.
Pros - don't have to worry about shrimps/fry getting sucked into the filters.
Pros - Very low water flow
Pros - No filter change
Pros - Cheap
Can't think of any cons about it.

It’s just something I’ve not really needed in an Opae ula tank so saves on the electricity bill.

For those who don't use the filter, how do you manage the feeding when there are several animals?

Once a week I will put a pinch of spirulina in their tanks, no filters etc. in my breeder tank I have thousands and no algae grows as it’s all eaten constantly.
