It looks like some sort of algae, do you have any Nerite snails in the tank? These would probably keep it away, also how often do you feed your tank and what sort of food are you using?

I have a horned nerite snail in the tank. But the snail only seem to eat the algae on my rocks and glass. I dont feed my tank. I just expose it to sunlight and the algae grows and naturally feeds the ecosystem. If i were to give them extra nutrients it would only be spirulina once a month to speed up the growth of the little shrimps

If it becomes a issue for your tank you could either take the rock out and scrub it in some clean RO or distilled water but this will disturb the tank or reduce light on the tank.

When I had a problem with hair algae I pulled most of it off by hand and added nerite snails and it never came back so who knows, I assume when it’s long it isn’t manageable for them.

Uhh i see. So i should probably get a couple more snails and wring out the algae (means disturbing the tank but no choice). Thanks for the help and active contribution as always odin!

By the way, i found online that margarita snails and astrea snails prefer eating hair algae so that might be a solution too. Not sure if they can acclimatize to the brackish waters as they tend to be in salt water

Oh right that’s interesting, maybe it’s worth a try at some point. I may get chance to setup a new tank soon so maybe I could try.
